Miscellaneous LinksThese links have nothing to do with breast cancer.  They are just other things that are important (or fun) to me.

Peninsula Humane Society & SPCAThis is where I was a TLC Volunteer!  PHS/SPCA, is a private non-profit organization guided by the humane ethic, builds healthy relationships between people and animals. Each year thousands of animals pass through its doors. PHS/SPCA provides a warm bed, nutritious food, veterinary care and a gentle touch for the lost, stray, unwanted and injured domestic and wild animals in our community.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals If you’ve ever watched Animal Planet, you may be familiar with “Animal Precinct.”  This is the ASPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement Department. The ASPCA has been around since 1866!

The Humane Society of the United States  - The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has worked since 1954 to promote the protection of all animals. With nearly ten million members and constituents, The HSUS is the nation’s largest and most powerful animal protection organization, working in the United States and abroad to defend the interests of animals. We celebrate the human-animal bond, and we fight animal cruelty and abuse in all of its forms.

Alzheimer’s Association of Northern California & Northern NevadaThe mission of this organization is: Creating a world without Alzheimer's disease and enhancing quality of life for those who live with it.  I participated in this organization’s “Memory Walk” at Treasure Island in San Francisco.  I walked in memory of my Grandmother.

The Walking Site - This site is produced as a resource for walkers of all fitness levels.

About.com - Each month more than 29 million people visit About.com. Whether you need to know more about home repair and decorating ideas, recipes, movie trailers, or car buying tips, our Guides offer practical advice and solutions for every day life. The Sports Basementsporting goods including shoes, socks, camping gear and clothing.  I LOVE this store!  Plus they always give breast cancer walkers a discount!  Their store in the Presidio is my favorite.  They recently opened a store in Sunnyvale too.

Ultima Replenisher – when training you need hydration!  Gatorade may be more popular, but I prefer Ultima!  It has zero sugar, no artificial sweetners or any other artificial ingredients.  It has only 35-40 calories per 20-oz. Serving.

Urban Dog Walkers – this was the number #1 fundraising team for the 2005 San Francisco Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.  If you’ve read my newsletters you’ve most likely heard of them before.  They train mostly in the Redwood City area (meeting place is Stafford Park), but also venture to Palo Alto once a week and even to Half Moon Bay once a month.  I trained with them extensively in 2005 when I prepared for the SF Avon Walk.  I join them occasionally each year for a walk or two.  Since I train for a different walk, our training schedules don’t exactly mesh, but they are such a super group that I enjoy walking with them.

Warming Hut Hotties – the Warming Hut Hotties have been my team since 2006.  The Hotties were five years old in 2008!  Since 2003 there have been hundreds of Hottie team members that have walked and crewed, raising over $2,151,395!!  The team decided to form a non-profit organization under the name In Our Lifetime, doing business as the Warming Hut Hotties in 2008!  The purpose and mission statement of the Hotties is, “The specific purposes for which this corporation is organized are to solicit and receive contributions; to distribute contributions to individuals, community organizations and non-governmental agencies that provide resource information, assistance and support to individuals affected by breast cancer.  We are ordinary women and men who have come together as the Warming Hut Hotties team by walking in breast cancer fundraising events.  Through our training walks, fundraising and participation in multi-day walk events we hope to inspire others to join our supportive and caring community.  Shoulder to shoulder we extend camaraderie, deep humor and shared vision for a world without breast cancer In Our Lifetime.”
