| Welcome to Walking for a Cure |
| Hi! My name is Sandra and I'd like to welcome you to my webpage! I've titled this page "Walking for a Cure," because that is what I have been doing since 2003 when I participated in my first event, the San Francisco Breast Cancer 3-Day. I walked 60-miles over three days and became hooked! |
| Since that event, I have continued my efforts to help raise funds and awareness for cancer. My "walking" resume includes: ***WALKER*** 2003 & 2004 SF Breast Cancer 3-Day 2005 SF Avon Walk for Breast Cancer 2006 Seattle Breast Cancer 3-Day 2004-2007, 2009 ACS Relay for Life 2005 HERS Walk for Breast Cancer 2006 Coastside Walk for Breast Cancer Care 2007 Seattle & San Diego BC3Ds 2008-2009 SF Bay Area BC3D ***CREW*** 2006 S.F. Avon Walk for Breast Cancer ***VOLUNTEER*** 2007 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer 2009 SF Bay Area Breast Cancer 3-Day ***MENTOR*** 2005 San Diego Breast Cancer 3-Day |
**2009 Fundraising Letter*** First I must thank you all for your amazing support! Over the last six years you have helped me raise $28,354 to help fund the fight against breast cancer. During that time I've walked 3,299.3 miles in training and on events to increase the awareness around this fight. Niether of those incredible numbers would have been possible without your support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'm truly blessed to have such amazing people in my life. In 2009 my fight continues as I walk in the San Francisco Bay Area Breast Cancer 3-Day October 2-4, 2009, benefitting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. You may wonder why I push myself to participate in these events year after year. Why do I keep talking about breast cancer? Why do I continue to fundraise and train? Why? Because when I first started participating in these events I could could on one hand the number of people I knew that had been touched by breast cancer. Now I know more than I can count and the numbers are not improving. The more people I talk to and the more money I raise to fund the fight against breast cancer, the sooner the numbers start turning around and the sooner a cause and a cure are found. I truly believe that finding the cure to one cancer will be the key to unraveling the mysteries of many cancers. Too many people have had their lives torn apart by this disease. I refuse to sit idly by and watch it happen. So why do I continue to do all this? Because I can. Because I simply cannot walk away. Because everyone deserves a lifetime. So assuming no injuries or flare-ups with my back (thank God for the two nerve root injections I received), I will walk for the 8th time this year. It's something I can do to make a difference. And supporting me is something you can do to make a difference. Over the last 25 years, every advance in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant. Your support of this event does make a difference! In order to walk I am required to raise a minimum of $2,300 (an increase of $100 from 2008); however, I am once again setting my goal at $5,000. Last year I fell short of this goal by $540, and I know that with the economy continue to languish you may think I am setting myself up for failure. Though I would really love to hit this milestone and receive the 3-Day $5K Legacy fundraising pin, any funds I raise over the minimum are an accomplishment - not a failure. Please keep in mind that cancer does not discriminate - it doesn't care if the economy is good or bad. People will continue to be diagnosed even during these tough times. People will continue to fight and people will continue to both win and lose their battles with cancer. This is why I am asking you to donate as generously as you comfortably can. To donate, simply click here to reach my official 3-Day fundraising page. You can safely donate by credit or debit card and immediately receive an e-mail receipt for your tax deductible donation. If the thought of donating online is too uncomfortable, you can send a check made payable to Breast Cancer 3-Day to my attention at P.O. Box 439, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019-0439. I'll take care of the paperwork for you. In return for your generous contribution, I will do the hard part. I will train faithfully for months, walking for hours upon hours and hundreds of miles, more than a reasonable person would consider, so I will be ready for the event this October. I will endure blisters. I will endure getting up before sunrise on weekends to meet my team, the Warming Hut Hotties, at 7 am (or earlier) to walk anywhere from 12-20 miles. I am really counting on your support once again. I'll send out few updates along the way through my newsletter, but you can also keep track of my progress right here at my website. My webpage will be updated weekly once I begin my training. Thank you in advance for your continued support and generosity! Sandra 8x Walker, 1x Crew |
